Biodata format for job

Updated · meracvresume.com

Short answer

A biodata for a job is a one- or two-page document with your name, contact details and a passport photo at the top, then personal details such as date of birth, father’s name and address, your career objective, education with marks, experience, skills, languages known and a signed declaration. Use it when a government office, PSU, school or employer asks for a biodata or a resume with photo, and for walk-in interviews and printed applications. For online applications, send a normal resume without the photo and personal details.

Job biodata, not marriage biodata

Search for “biodata format” and most results are marriage biodatas, with horoscope, height, family income and caste. None of that belongs in a biodata for a job. An employer wants to know three things: who you are and how to reach you, what you have studied and done, and that you confirm it is true.

A job biodata is really a resume with a few extra lines that Indian government and offline forms still ask for: a photo, date of birth, father’s name, permanent address and a declaration you sign. Keep everything else focused on your qualifications.

Biodata vs resume vs CV

In India the three words are often used for the same thing. When a notice says “send your biodata” or “CV”, it usually means “send your details on paper”. The real differences are these:

  1. Biodata

Personal details first (date of birth, father’s name, address), a photo, then education and experience, ending with a signed declaration. Used for government, PSU, school and offline applications.

  2. Resume

One or two pages focused on skills, experience and results. No photo or personal details. The standard for private companies and online applications, where applicant tracking systems read it.

  3. CV (curriculum vitae)

A longer, complete record — common in teaching, research and medicine — with publications, conferences and every qualification. In everyday Indian usage, “CV” often just means resume.

The biodata format, section by section

  1. Name, photo and contact

Your full name as in your certificates, a passport-size photo at the top right, then phone, email and city on one line.

  2. Personal details

Date of birth, father’s name, mother’s name, gender, marital status, nationality and permanent address — one “Label: value” line each. Leave out any line the post does not need.

  3. Career objective

Two lines: your qualification and the post you are applying for. Examples: career objectives.

  4. Educational qualifications

Latest first: degree or diploma, then Class 12 and Class 10, each with the board or university, the year and your percentage or CGPA.

  5. Experience

Post, organisation, place and dates, with two or three lines on what you did. Freshers add apprenticeships, internships, part-time work and NSS or NCC.

  6. Skills and certificates

Computer skills (CCC, typing speed in Hindi and English), trade skills, and certificates such as an ITI, apprenticeship or NCC certificate.

  7. Languages known

The languages you can read, write and speak, for example Hindi, English, Bhojpuri.

  8. Declaration

One sentence confirming the details are true, then place and date on the left and your signature on the right. Ready lines: declaration for resume.

Keep it to one page if you can, two at most. Use plain lines rather than a table: tables look tidy on screen but often break when the file is opened on another computer, and they are hard to edit at a cyber café.

Which personal details to include, and what to leave out

Add only what the recruiting office actually uses. Every line you add is something a stranger can read.

Do

  • Date of birth, written the way your Class 10 certificate shows it.
  • Father’s name (and mother’s name, if forms ask for it).
  • Permanent address with the district and PIN code.
  • Gender, marital status and nationality, when the post or form needs them.
  • Languages you can read, write and speak.

Don't

  • Religion, caste or category: attach the certificate if a form asks for it.
  • Aadhaar, PAN, bank or passport numbers.
  • Height, weight, horoscope or family income — that is a marriage biodata.
  • A photo cut from a group picture, or a selfie with filters.
  • Hobbies that fill space without telling anything about you.

meracvresume.com does not offer religion or caste fields, and every personal detail is optional: a field you leave empty is simply not printed.

Resume with photo: when to add one

A photo belongs on a biodata, and on a resume only when the employer asks for it. Add one for government and PSU applications sent on paper, walk-in interviews, school and college teaching posts (the teacher resume format shows what else those need), and any notice that says “with recent photograph”. For online applications, leave the photo out: it is not needed to shortlist you, and photos and personal details can confuse the software that reads applications.

  • Use a recent passport-size photo: head and shoulders, plain light background, face clearly visible.
  • Wear what you would wear to the interview. No caps, sunglasses or filters.
  • Take it in daylight facing a window if you do not have a studio photo; crop it to show your face and shoulders.
  • Use the same photo you upload on official application portals, so everything matches.

In the builder the photo is resized on your own phone or laptop to a small passport-style image and saved only in your browser. It is never uploaded to meracvresume.com.

Frequently asked questions

What is the format of a biodata for a job?

Name, photo and contact details at the top; personal details such as date of birth, father’s name and address; a career objective; education with board, year and percentage; experience; skills; languages known; and a declaration with place, date and signature. Keep it to one or two pages.

Biodata kaise banaye mobile se?

meracvresume.com par builder kholiye, Personal step par “Add personal details” dabaiye, photo aur details bhariye, declaration on kariye aur Review par Biodata layout chuniye. Phir PDF ya Word download kariye. Login ki zaroorat nahi, aur photo aapke phone se bahar nahi jaati.

Is a biodata the same as a resume?

Not quite. A biodata adds a photo, personal details and a signed declaration, and is used for government, PSU and offline applications. A resume leaves those out and focuses on skills and results; use it for private companies and online applications.

Should I put my photo on a resume?

Only when the employer or the notice asks for it, which is common for government jobs, walk-in interviews and teaching posts. For online applications through company websites and job portals, leave the photo out.

Should I mention caste or religion in a biodata for a job?

No. They are not needed to judge your qualifications. If a government form asks for your category, fill it in on the form and attach the certificate it asks for.

Can I make my biodata in Hindi?

Yes. Choose हिंदी as the resume language and the headings and personal-detail labels print in Hindi, including the declaration. For printed and government applications this works well; for online applications, English is safer.
